Fireflies

THEA: Our yard is full of fireflies at night. We like to catch them.

Fireflies have a red head. And they have a little bit of red on their wings. We call them fireflies or lightning bugs because they flash and the easiest way to catch them is to look for a flash, then you will see one near you. You have to wait for it. IF it doesn't land on you that's OK. You can look for a different firefly.

FAITH: I saw a lightning bug and it landed on me because I was being patient. And I catched one in my hands and it didn't look like the other ones, but it did have a flash. Its wings looked like a bumblebee, but it wasn't really a bumblebee.

THEA: Back to catching it. You have to hold out your hands, and you come up underneath it, and if it lands on your hands, then you can show whoever is near you.

MOM: We're going to learn about fireflies this summer. Check back soon for pictures and for all the fun stuff we learn!
